Takeaways from the FedScoop Cloud Data Security Event

Last week Simple Technology Solutions (STS) attended Fedscoop’s Cloud Data Security event sponsored by Cloudera. The event was standing room only – a testament to the topic’s importance and relevance.

DATA AS A STRATEGIC ENTERPRISE-WIDE ASSET

The success of enterprise cloud, data, and security initiatives are inextricably linked, and agencies need a holistic strategy that incorporates the nexus. This fact, coupled with the astronomical data explosion, is propelling new technologies and forcing agencies to think about data as a strategic, enterprise-wide asset.

A DISRUPTIVE TREND

Edge computing was discussed at length, specifically the new challenges related to data governance and data security with the proliferation of 5G networks.

WHAT IS EDGE COMPUTING?

Edge computing brings processing power to end devices at the edge of the network where data is generated. These networks can reduce latency and enhance performance with impressive speed and flexibility.

EXAMPLES INCLUDE:

  • Tactical communications devices used by law enforcement agents in the field to send information back-and-forth to headquarters.
  • Mobile applications used by scientists and engineers to collect environmental data in remote parts of the country.
  • The proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and “smart cities”.

Stay tuned! Information technology is constantly evolving and STS will further discuss the future of edge computing and its advantages over traditional network architecture.
